Gold Prices vs Gold Stocks: Will The Gap Close? | Gold Investing ...

Gold Prices vs Gold Stocks: Will The Gap Close?Gold prices have rallied, resulting in higher revenues and cash flows for miners, yet these increases have not been accompanied by comparable rises in gold mining equities.? Gold stocks are trading at historically low levels when compared to gold prices, to which some analysts insist that this type of spread cannot and will not last forever.

Putting the disparity between gold stocks and metal prices into perspective, a PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) report says through December 15, 2011 gold had risen 11 percent, but gold stocks within the S&P/TSX Global Gold Index declined 10.6 percent.

In 2012, this disparate relationship between gold prices and gold mining shares has continued along with the desires for an explanation.

?Gold stocks are put into periods where they lag bullion for one of two reasons,? Joseph Wickwire, manager of the Fidelity Advisor Global Commodity Stock Fund told Bloomberg.

?One, the market doesn?t believe the gold price is going to go up. Therefore why would you want something levered to the gold price? Or, two, the markets are skeptical about whether the gold companies are going to be able to deliver a margin expansion against the rising backdrop of the gold price,? he said.

Most investors looking to play gold want the best possible access to the metal price. And that poses the question of whether miners are indeed the best choice.

To invest in gold mining stocks involves much more than playing the metal. It is a move that also involves taking on the risks that the underlying companies face. The risks for gold miners are often already quite substantial and their challenges continue to grow.

One of the those challenges is the management of costs. Though gold prices have rallied in recent years, for many miners, costs are rising above the rate of inflation.

Nick Holland, CEO of Gold Fields?(NYSE:GFI)said we should expect cost inflation of about 10 percent per annum, not just for gold miners but for the mining industry at large.

?Our business is structured around the long term gold price of $1500. And we?ve been conservative as a consequence,? Holland said. But he also noted that if you consider the all-in costs, you are already looking at somewhere around $1400/oz, leaving little room for error.

Wickwire, though believing that mining equities will rise, admits that these companies haven?t been their own best friend because they have had challenges executing.

Some argue that there just is no reason for investors to get tangled up in these mining stocks. Among them is Kevin O?Leary, Chairman of O?Leary Funds, who believes that gold companies tend to be poorly managed.

While he owns gold and likes the metal because it is a ?stabilizer? or ?insurance policy,? O?Leary says there is no reason to own the miners.

?If your cost to actually mine an actual ounce keeps going up, why would I ever buy the stock,? he said in an interview with Daniela Cambone of Kitco.

Attitudes such as this highlight another of the causes commonly put forth for the under-performance of gold mining stocks.

This is not the first time such a disconnect has between the metal and share prices has occurred, according Wickwire. ?From 2004 to 2005, for 17 months we saw the exact same behavior only to see the gold stocks come in and outperform the bullion for the next two and half years.?

There is, however, a major difference between the market then and the one we are in now.

ETFs change the market

In addition to bullion, miners also have especially fierce competition in the form of ETFs. These are investment products that have become game changers for the industry.

With ETFs, investors are able to conveniently enter and exit the gold space while avoiding the business risks associated with mining stocks and also the requirements associated with bullion, such as transporting and storing it.

This is the first bull move where those interested in betting on gold can purchase bullion through an ETF, says PwC.

Gold mining stocks undervalued

Still, while gold mining stocks have been unloved for some time, they still have supporters. And, many of those supporters insist that stocks are extremely undervalued, are at or near their bottom, and those who are in should stay and those who aren?t should buy.

Recently, economic turmoil has been driving safety seekers to the dollar in droves. Some gold equity supporters believe this will change as investors start focusing?again?on the reality that the US has its own list of problems. When this happens, sentiment toward gold is expected to also change and investment demand to improve. As prices rise, market sentiment about the outlook for gold prices is likewise expected to improve.

Some also foresee the looming economic slowdown easing gold miners? costs.

Gold miners gaining popularity

JJ Abodeely, Director and Portfolio Manager of Sitka Pacific Capital Management says there is strong evidence that China, the marginal consumer of oil and other industrial commodities is slowing dramatically. What happens to these input prices if the global economy rolls over? Miners costs will fall or at least stop growing.

Of late, gold miners popularity is reportedly growing.

In a? number of his recent market notes, Ed Steer, director of? Gold Anti-Trust Action committee and Casey Research correspondent, reported buyers in the market snapping up gold and silver stocks with both hands.

?Until recently, miners lagged gold,? says Dennis Gartman, investor and publisher of the Gartman Letter. ?Now the miners lead the way higher as Barrick (NYSE:ABX,TSX:ABX) or Newmont (NYSE:NEM) or ASA Ltd (NYSE:ASA) gain upon GLD (SPDR Gold Shares) on up days and down. This we find impressive and this we find important.?

THE POWER OF SONG: A TRIBUTE TO THE MUSIC OF PETE SEEGER WITH BETTY AND THE BABY BOOMERS AND TOM PAXTON AT THE MAINSTAY JUNE 1 ? 3

?The Mainstay in Rock Hall, MD pays tribute to the music and activism of Pete Seeger with a concert with Betty and the Baby Boomers on Friday June 1 at 8:00 p.m. and a concert with legendary songwriter Tom Paxton on Saturday June 2 at 8:00 p.m. There will also be a discussion on Saturday afternoon June 1 led by Mainstay founder and director Tom McHugh and a sing-around on Sunday June 3 at the new pavilion in Rock Hall Village at the corner of Main Street and Route 20 in Rock Hall. Admission is $15 for Betty and the Baby Boomers and $20 for Tom Paxton. The discussion and the sing-around are free. The weekend is sponsored by Judy Kohl. For information and reservations call 410-639-9133. Information is also available at the Mainstay?s website http://www.mainstayrockhall.org.

On Friday June 1, Betty and the Baby Boomers return to the Mainstay from their home in the Hudson River Valley to help pay tribute to their long-time associate and collaborator Pete Seeger. The folk music magazine Sing-Out called them ?a refreshing reminder of the halcyon days of American folk music.? Betty Boomer, Steve Stanne, Jean Valla McAvoy and Paul Rubeo met as singers on the sloop Clearwater in 1985. Bassist Robert Bard joined the group in 2009. The Clearwater organization was founded by Pete Seeger. It built the 106 foot Hudson River sloop Clearwater and is dedicated to environmental causes.

With a sound inspired by the enthusiastic harmonies of folk groups like Peter, Paul & Mary and the Weavers, the Boomers draw material from traditional folk music, from contemporary songwriters and classic folk writers like Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, and Phil Ochs. Their distinctive arrangements feature rich three and four part harmonies, strong instrumentals and occasional a capella voices. David Malachowski in the Kingston (NY) Daily Freeman said they ?sing and play old-school folk like it was brand spanking new.? Admission to Betty and the Baby Boomers is $15.

Betty Boomer is a former English teacher turned naturalist, working on the Hudson and in the Valley?s other precious open spaces. Jean Valla McAvoy is the education coordinator for the Hudson River Research Reserve, protecting wetlands along the river. Paul Rubeo, a longtime social studies teacher, today trains teachers to use computer and video technology to bring the river into their classrooms. Steve Stanne directed Clearwater?s teaching programs for nearly twenty years and now coordinates the education projects of New York State?s Hudson River Estuary Program.

On Saturday afternoon June 2 at 1:00 p.m., there will be an informal discussion about Pete Seeger?s music and activism with Tom McHugh and some of Pete?s colleagues and associates. Steve Stanne is a founding member of Betty & the Baby Boomers who directed Clearwater?s teaching programs for nearly twenty years and now coordinates the education projects of New York State?s Hudson River Estuary Program. Judy Kohl was a Hudson River Valley resident for 40 years, a Clearwater member, co-founder of Hedgelawn Foundation and sponsor of this weekend tribute to Pete Seeger. John Mylod is a former Director of the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater and a Hudson River shad fisherman. Tom McHugh, is a former VP of the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater and is founder and director of The Mainstay. The discussion will take place at the Mainstay and admission is free.

Saturday June 3 at 8:00 p.m., Tom Paxton, one of America?s great folk songwriters returns to the Mainstay stage to continue the tribute to Seeger. Included in Paxton?s body of work are such timeless standards as ?The Last Thing On My Mind?, ?Ramblin? Boy?, ?Bottle Of Wine?, ?Whose Garden Was This??, ?Goin? To The Zoo? and ?The Marvelous Toy?.

Tom Paxton has been writing witty and incisive topical songs since the 60s. His songs are at once timeless and contemporary. He has become a voice of multiple generations, addressing issues of injustice and inhumanity, laying bare the absurdities of modern culture, and celebrating the most tender bonds of family, friends, and community.

In describing Tom Paxton?s influence on his fellow musicians, Pete Seeger has said: ?Tom?s songs have a way of sneaking up on you. You find yourself humming them, whistling them, and singing a verse to a friend. Like the songs of Woody Guthrie, they?re becoming part of America.?

Paxton received a 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Recording Academy during the 51st Annual Grammy Awards. He was nominated for a Grammy for ?Comedians and Angels? in 2007, and ?Live in the U.K.? in 2006. He was also nominated for Grammys in 2003 for his Appleseed Records CD, ?Looking For The Moon?, and in 2002 for his children?s CD, ?Your Shoes, My Shoes?. He has received the Lifetime Achievement Award from ASCAP, and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the BBC in London. He was awarded an honorary Doctor of Music from Washington College in 2009.

His place in folk music is secured not just by hit records and awards, but by the admiration of three generations of fellow musicians. An internationally recognized and loved cultural figure, he has always chosen goodwill over commercial success. He not only wrote but also lives the words, ?Peace will come, and let it begin with me.?

Judy Collins, another legend whose body of work goes back to the 60s, said ?Tom Paxton?s songs are so powerful and lyrical, written from the heart and the conscience, and they reach their mark, our most inner being. He writes stirring songs of social protest and gentle songs of love, each woven together with his personal gift for language. His melodies haunt, his lyrics reverberate. I have sung Tom?s songs for three decades and will go on doing so in the new century, for they are beautiful and timeless, and meant for every age.?

Upon graduating from the University of Oklahoma in 1959 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, Paxton acted in summer stock theatre and briefly tried graduate school before joining the Army. Brought to the New York vicinity courtesy of the Army, Paxton remained there following his discharge. His early success in Greenwich Village coffeehouses, such as The Gaslight and The Bitter End, led to an ever-increasing circle of work. Pete Seeger started singing his songs including ?Ramblin? Boy? in the early 60s.

In his book ?Mayor of MacDougal Street? Dave Van Ronk said, ?Dylan is usually cited as the founder of the new song movement, and he certainly became its most visible standard-bearer, but the person who started the whole thing was Tom Paxton ? he tested his songs in the crucible of live performance, he found that his own stuff was getting more attention than when he was singing traditional songs or stuff by other people? he set himself a training regimen of deliberately writing one song every day. Dylan had not yet showed up when this was happening, and by the time Bobby came on the set, with at most two or three songs he had written, Tom was already singing at least 50 percent his own material.?

Over the years, Paxton?s songs have been recorded by Pete Seeger, Joan Baez, the Kingston Trio, Peter, Paul & Mary, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Simon & Garfunkel, Harry Belefonte, Neil Diamond, Glen Campbell, John Denver and Placido Domingo among hundreds of others.

Admission to the Tom Paxton concert is $20 and reservations are a must.

On Sunday June 3 at 1:00 p.m., the Mainstay concludes its tribute to the music of Pete Seeger with a sing-around at the new pavilion at the corner of Rte. 20 and Main Street in Rock Hall. Everyone is invited to bring their voice, guitar or other instrument. Attendees can bring a Pete Seeger song to share with the group or just join in on the choruses of Seeger songs like ?Where Have all the Flowers Gone,? ?If I Had a Hammer? ?Turn, Turn Turn? and ?We Shall Overcome? and songs associated with Seeger like ?This Land is Your Land, ?Michael Row the Boat Ashore? and ?Goodnight Irene.? Admission is free. In the event of severe weather, the sing-around will move indoors to the Mainstay.

The Mainstay (Home of Musical Magic) is the friendly informal storefront performing arts center on Rock Hall?s old time Main Street. It is a 501(c)(3), non profit dedicated to the arts, serving Rock Hall, MD and the surrounding region. When Children Use Dirty Words : Ideas for Women Home and ...

It has happened to all of us. We are out somewhere and for whatever reason our four year old decides to use a four letter word. So what can you do when your child uses a word that they shouldn?t. First and foremost remain calm. Don?t fly ff the handle because kids will pick up on that using that particular word gets you? upset and gets your attention.

Next ask them why they said that word. find out what the the reason behind using that particular word is. Then ask where they heard that word. I hate to say it but nine times out of ten they hear dirty words from parents. we don?t realize we don it sometimes until our children remind us. If your child is old enough to understand explain to them that using words such as those are not polite and that when adults (including you) use them you are being rude.

We tell our children those are grown-up words, not very nice ones but not something that good, politer children should say. If your child is too young to understand the meaning behind those words try to ignore the word all together. It could be they heard the word, repeated, and will never say it again. In the event the word does get used more often then address the issue.

Marketing in Australia, 7 huge mistakes businesses are making | The

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

When it comes to Marketing in Australia,Marketing in Australia, Point Danger, Queensland,?many small business owner seem to be really struggling to come to grips with the changes that are happening.

In the not to distant past all you had to do was run a?Yellow-pages?ad and a couple of promotions in the local?newspaper. And through the doors the hordes came.

The game has completely changed with the invention of so?called?smart phones, and iPads. These devices have caused the way we consume our media to change rapidly.

Last week there was even the story of the Smart Phone App Amazon has helped develop?where?people can now come into your store scan a bar code on your?products, and it will tell?them?if?they?can buy it cheaper somewhere near your shop, or online!

So many business owners rightly think that they need to get on to this social media band wagon ASAP. And rightly so. I mean if ?Marketing in Australia is changing as quickly as you are saying Beanie, then this is where ?they need to be right?

Yep absolutely spot on. They?all need to be on social sites like Facebook to compete. But herein lies a big?problem?

They go and sign up for a Facebook Business Page account, it?s free so how hard can it be to use right? Just take my offline marketing (which isn?t working) and slap it on Facebook and Bob is your Uncle right!

Wrong

In fact I wrote another post about this very subject the other day. It was?called?wait for it?

Facebook won?t?fix?your crap marketing.

I won?t go right ?into it here?but the gist of the story is?

If your marketing won?t work offline, there is no way in hell it?will?work on Facebook.

So what can you do? Quite a bit actually, in fact I am going to give you seven mistakes you can stop making today! Do these immediately, and you will stand out online like the?proverb-able?dogs! Ready? Here we go.

?

  1. Because?the platform they set up on is free, they think it needs no budget to maintain it! Fatal mistake, the platform may be free, but the marketing isn?t.
  2. They don?t know who they are selling to. If you want to sell on social sites you have to be specific. You must know exactly who your ideal customer is so that you can share the kind of information with them that they want to hear about, and you can?create?offers they are going to want to buy.
  3. They don?t have a reason to make offers. Pete Godfrey said this?on Facebook not long back, ?If you want to make more money, you have to make more offers more often? So?you?need to create yourself a yearly marketing calander that will allow you to make offers without looking like rug?salesman.
  4. Their Facebook page looks like a sandwich board. In other words they just post their specials on there. They don?t use the platform as a tool to educate their market,?and?warm them up to buy.?Sandwich?boards do not cut it on Facebook or any?other?social sites.
  5. They neglect email marketing. Facebook is great but guess what? They own your business page, you don?t. You are?just?renting?space off of them that they can take away. Any successful social marketing?strategy?must include email marketing.
  6. They don?t create any of their own content. To stand out online you must be seen as an expert. This is done by creting content like, blog posts, audio and video. Those smart phones we were?talking?about?before?have all of the tools that you need to do this.
  7. They don?t leverage live streaming or webinars. These are not hard to run and are so?powerful?becuase you are not selling one on one?anymore, but one to many.

There you go, that is more than enough to get you started straight away. Do these things and you will stand out and be one of the few?business?that will thrive in the future.

Marketing in Australia isn?t about working harder, but working smarter! Got a smarter idea that you would like to share? Please feel free to post it into the comments below.

Cheers Beanie,?the?Social Tradie

New online tool to help families maximize tax, transfer benefits

State taxes and transfers can be an important, albeit complicated form of assistance for low-income families. A new interactive calculator aims to help guide families through the process, including the options when family income increases.

State taxes and transfers can be an important form of assistance for low-income families. But the amount of government help varies widely among the states. And, importantly, so does what happens to those benefits when such a family increases its wages.

The Tax Policy Center is a joint venture of the Urban Institute and Brookings Institution. The Center is made up of nationally recognized experts in tax, budget, and social policy who have served at the highest levels of government. TaxVox is the Tax Policy Center's tax and budget policy blog.

To help understand how those tax and spending programs work, the Urban Institute has created a new interactive Net Income Change Calculator (NICC). The calculator allows users to enter information about family and work characteristics, child care expenses, rent, and program participation. The calculator then provides estimates for taxes and transfers at five income levels so users can see how taxes and transfers change as income rises.

It includes state and federal income taxes, the employee share of payroll taxes, and a wide range of subsidy programs, including Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly Food Stamps), the Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) as well as subsidies for Housing and Child Care. All rules represent 2008 law.

The calculator shows how different these benefits are, depending on where a low-income family lives. For example, in 2008, a single parent with two children aged 0 and 3 with poverty level wages could have received transfer benefits ranging anywhere between $4,000 in several states and $9,200 (Connecticut) if she participated in TANF, SNAP, and WIC.

In addition, she could have received about $6,700 in federal tax credits and either owed state income taxes or received additional tax credits.? For example, in Alabama her state tax bill would be over $300 while in Connecticut she would owe no states taxes. She would also have owed almost $1,300 in the employee side of payroll taxes. We assume her childcare costs, before subsidies, would increase to about $250 per month ? some of which could be offset by childcare subsidies. Together, taxes and transfers could have changed this mom?s income from $17,000 in wages to between $27,500 and $32,000 in income and benefits, depending on where she lived.

What happens if that mom gets a job?

A single parent in Connecticut with two young children could have received over $18,000 in transfer benefits if she had no earnings and no income, assuming her pre-subsidy rent was $600 per month. But suppose her earnings increased to $17,000 (poverty level) ? spread evenly throughout the year ? increases in childcare costs (assumed to be $250 per month before subsidies) and payroll taxes would have reduced her earnings by almost $2,000. Income tax credits and transfer benefits would have then added $16,500 ? for a total net income of almost $33,000. If her income increased to twice poverty, she?d have to pay almost $5,600 in subsidized child care costs, state income taxes and payroll taxes. She?d receive about $6,400 in tax and transfer benefits ? for a net income of $35,000. Thus, doubling her wages from $17,000 to $34,000 resulted in a net change in income of only about $2,000.

In contrast, the same family in Alabama could have received almost $17,000 in transfer benefits if the parent had no earnings. If her earnings increased to poverty-level, she would have spent over $2,500 on childcare, state income taxes, and payroll taxes, while transfer benefits and tax credits would have decreased to under $15,000. In total, the family?s net income would rise from almost $17,000 to $29,000. If her wages doubled, the combination of declining transfers, increased taxes, and higher childcare costs would have resulted in a total net income of $33,000 ? an increase of about $4,000.

The NICC provides a powerful tool to understand both how states differ with respect to taxes and transfers, and to understand how a family?s income changes as a parent increases her earnings. Try it out.

Canada Is Not A Real Country, And Why Americans Should Care

Home / Uncategorized / Canada Is Not A Real Country, And Why Americans Should Care

There is an old saying about Quebec: Pity the poor French Canadians. They had a chance to build a country based on British politics, American technology, and French culture. Sadly, they ended up building a country based on French politics, British technology, and American culture. There is also an old saying about Mexico that easily can apply to Canada. Pity poor Mexico, so far from God, so close to the United States. Canada?s attempt since 1960 to become a real country, rather than just a place, clearly is ending in failure half a century later, and the consequences for the United States are growing more ominous by the day.

For starters, it looks as if the American people are about to elect as their president a man who is a Kenyan by birth, and who looks, talks, acts, and thinks like a Canadian. Not a comforting thought when one considers Canada is the Fannie Mae, Lehman Brothers, General Motors, and Bethlehem Steel of nations. It?s little more than a bunch of losers who could have reached for the stars, and instead flew the business into the pavement face first. People criticize Barrack Obama for promising change while failing to be specific about what he means. To the contrary, his goal could not be clearer; he wants to turn the United States into Canada.

He is what nineteenth century British imperialists called a ?brown skinned Englishman?; namely, a colonialist superbly suited to advance the interests of the British Empire and the class that ruled it. Today, the British colonial masters and their pathetic lackeys wear three button suits rather than resplendent uniforms, call themselves ?neo conservatives?, and prattle on about the New American Century, as if they think no one recognizes it for what it is, the old British Empire with an American accent. And by the way, they are only too happy to let the Americans supply the muscle, and bleed the rivers of blood necessary to ensure the endeavor is a profitable going concern.

So if you want to know what the future holds for the United States under an Obama presidency and a Democratic congress you have but to look north to what was once a really nice place. It wasn?t a country, but a least it was nice. Now it?s just an increasingly violent, demoralized and beaten down satrapy. Keep your head down, and your mouth shut if you know what?s good for you. And above all, never disagree with the ruling class, just be a good peasant. It?s called the Canadian Way of Life. And Mexico? It may not be nice, and it may only be a narco-gangster state ineptly governed by a corrupt oligarchy, but a least it?s a real country. God Save the Queen!

Childhood Obesity

The average child spends almost 53 hours/week (7 hours 38 min/day) watching television, playing video games, using computers and/or cell phones. Add another 1 hour 25 minutes/week if you include texting. Clearly our children need more physical activity. However, parents who come home from work exhausted, have a difficult time being good role models. Likewise it is a challenge for overworked parents to ensure that their children are less sedentary and more active. Schools are generally not in a position to help. In 2011 the median Physical Education (PE) budget in elementary schools in the U.S. was $460/year. Many PE programs are optional, depending upon the grade. Some PE classes can even be taken online?..READ MORE.

How high fat foods impact diabetes and metabolic syndrome

ScienceDaily (May 22, 2012) ? A University of Michigan Health System study provides new clues about the health-damaging molecular changes set in motion by eating high-fat foods.

A better understanding of the body's response to indulgent eating could lead to new approaches for treating diabetes and metabolic syndrome. High-fat foods can contribute to obesity, which increases the risk for developing type 2 diabetes.

The researchers learned a key protein called Bcl10 is needed for the free fatty acids -- which are found in high fat food and stored in body fat -- to impair insulin action and lead to abnormally high blood sugar.

In the laboratory study, mice deficient in Bcl10 were protected from developing insulin resistance when fed a high-fat diet. The findings will be published May 31 in Cell Reports.

Insulin helps control blood sugar, but insulin resistance can lead to the abnormally high blood sugar levels that are the hallmark of diabetes. Insulin resistance can occur as part of metabolic syndrome, a cluster of conditions that increase the risk for type 2 diabetes and heart disease.

As millions of Americans become overweight and obese, type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome are on the rise.

"The study also underscores how very short-term changes in diet such as high-fat eating for only a few days, perhaps even less, can induce a state of insulin resistance," says senior study author Peter C. Lucas, M.D., Ph.D., associate professor of pathology at the University of Michigan Medical School.

Researchers began by investigating how free fatty acids induce inflammation and impair insulin action in the liver. It's thought the liver is a major target for the harmful effects of free fatty acids.

In the liver, free fatty acids undergo metabolism to produce diacylglycerols prior to inducing the inflammatory response. Diacylglycerols also activate NF-?B signaling which has been linked with cancer, metabolic and vascular diseases.

The team of researchers concluded that Bcl10 is required for fatty acids to induce inflammation and insulin resistance. In the study, Bcl10-deficient mice showed significant improvement in regulation of blood sugar.

"We were surprised to learn that Bcl10, a protein previously known for its critical role in immune cell response to infection, also plays a critical role in the liver's response to fatty acid," says Lucas.. "This is an example of nature co-opting a mechanism fundamental to the immune system and using it in a metabolic organ, in this case, the liver."

"These findings reveal a new and important role for Bcl10 and could lead to novel ideas for treating patients with metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes," says co-senior author Linda M. McAllister-Lucas, M.D., Ph.D., associate professor of pediatric hemotology/oncology.

30 Under 30? REALTORS? Represent Future of Real Estate ...

Today?s real estate market is challenging and competitive, but this year?s REALTOR? Magazine ?30 Under 30? honorees haven?t let that deter them. The 2012 class is following in the strong entrepreneurial tradition of real estate, creating their own pathways to success.

?I am always astonished to see the ?30 Under 30? professionals every year and all that they have achieved in such a short amount of time,? says National Association of Realtors? President Moe Veissi. ?What amazes me the most about this year?s class is how they recognize there is no one formula for winning in real estate. They have discovered success their own way and display the dedication and hardworking spirit all REALTORS? possess. REALTORS? are constantly evolving with the market, and it?s important to recognize these young people and learn from them, as they are the future of the real estate profession.?

The 2012 ?30 Under 30? honorees, who are featured in the May/June issue of REALTOR? Magazine, are a mix of broker-owners/managers and salespeople, representing all sectors of the market from commercial real estate to rental properties. Some are immigrants to the U.S., while others practice in the small towns where they grew up. Some were born into a real estate family and always knew they wanted to enter the profession, while others were on a much different career path before real estate came calling.

Mandy Becker, a broker-owner in Myrtle Beach, S.C., originally envisioned herself as a lawyer. Amanda Ruchti, a real estate salesperson in Houston, Texas, saw herself as a travel writer. Meanwhile, Seth Goodman, a salesperson in Lincoln, Ill., knew he wanted to follow in the footsteps of his grandfather, a Cleveland, Ohio, area broker. Goodman now has a successful business in his hometown of Lincoln with a population of just 14,500.

Many of this year?s ?30 under 30? came into the business shortly before or after the housing market decline. They?ve thrived because they haven?t been afraid to take risks, often at a very young age. Rachel Adler, a salesperson in Bellevue, Wash., was 19 when she purchased her first home and-inspired by the young, vibrant agent she worked with-quickly earned a real estate license. Likewise, Inessa Chernioglo, a salesperson in Elk Grove, Calif., had just graduated high school when she used her savings to buy her first home. She soon bought and rented out the first one. ?Having this experience helps me encourage the younger generation to be wiser with their spending and shows them that homeownership is very attainable if done wisely,? says Chernioglo.

Along with taking risks, this year?s honorees are thinking outside the box on how to achieve results in the industry. Brandon Brittingham, a salesperson in Salisbury, Md., developed an REO application for the iPhone that enables real estate professionals to connect with legitimate REO companies. He saw the need after teaching short sale and REO classes.

Timothy Ho, a sales person in Whitestone, N.Y. and this year?s REALTOR? Magazine Readers Choice Winner, devised a prospecting database system for his team that is both simple to use and sophisticated enough to handle the 200 to 300 calls his office receives each month. Michael Wolf, a salesperson in San Diego, Calif., says he is in constant ?refinement mode? and looking for ways to better himself. He has written The First Homebuyer Book, and started the company LockBoxSwap.com, where real estate professionals across the nation can buy and sell used lockboxes.

One quality that runs throughout the ?30 Under 30? class of 2012 is an inherent understanding of the importance of long-term relationships. ?If you focus on hard work, ethical behavior, and providing the best service possible you will build a network that sticks with you for life,? says Melissa Kennedy, a broker-owner in Newport Beach, Calif.

This year marks the 12th anniversary of REALTOR? Magazine?s ?30 Under 30? program. Over the years, 390 rising young stars have been recognized for their commitment and dedication to the real estate industry.

Health and Fitness: Realize optimal health

"Optimum health is not just the absence of disease but the presence of wellness in mental, emotional, physical, spiritual and social areas. Some would also include financial health."

Introduction

We have to start thinking of wealth not just in terms of possession of money and properties but also the possession of mental, emotional, physical, social and spiritual well-being.

Mental Health

The truth is mind is the forerunner of all states.

With a proper mindset, a poor man can still be happy. It provides clarity of thoughts, good insight and the ability to see things through an unbiased mind.It is extremely difficult to note or observe the unfolding of events and phenomena without judging. We habitually associate emotions or feelings to events, and allow such emotions to direct our actions.

Emotional Health

It is our emotions that lead us to act impulsively at times. Thus a high level of self-awareness in this area is extremely useful. In fact, it is essential to our well-being. There are positive and negative emotions. Positive emotions such as love, compassion and joy should be cultivated, while negative emotions such as fear, anger and hate need to be eradicated.
One is love and compassion. The other is fear and anger."

The young boy asked, "Which one will win, grandfather?" The old man replied, "The one I feed." The truth is how well we manage our emotions depends on how aware we are of our emotions, particularly on the arising of our emotions.

Our body's immune system is generally enhanced by positive mental outlook and emotion. Conversely, it is depressed by negative mental and emotional states. Thus, stress, worry, anger and fear are some states that may lead to physical illnesses such as hypertension, cardiac diseases, peptic ulcers, depression and a host of other ailments.

Physical Health

To maintain an optimum physical well-being, therefore, requires us to focus not only on our body but also our mind and emotions.

On a physical level, our body can be kept healthy through adequate sleep and rest, proper nutrition, regular exercises and a healthy environment that is free from pollution.

Spiritual Health

Throughout the ages, wise men have consistently informed and taught us that we are essentially spiritual beings.
Stories from people who had gone through a near death experience (NDE), or dying people with heightened nearing death awareness, or simply a cure from an 'incurable' disease all suggest that there is more to life than just the physical state.

Major religions of the world all based their teachings on the belief that we are essentially spiritual beings. According to these teachings, our physical existence is secondary.

Financial Health

Practically, therefore, we need to look into ways to achieve a financial state that would theoretically free us from the constrain of 'forced' work. To become an investor or a business owner, you must spend the time and money to acquire financial intelligence. Unlike IQ or EQ, you can acquire financial intelligence through self education.

To get a financial health check-up, consult an accountant, a banker or a financial planner you can trust.

Healthy Relationship

As a medical doctor, I am in a unique position to confront and comfort dying patients. It is as though there is an inherent need to get a proper closure to a relationship.

Software Development Companies ? Discussing Their Roles and ...

Software development companies are very popular today and their business is very beneficial to the world. They have notable contributions in virtually every industry. Their programs make processes easier, quicker and manageable. These companies follow Software Development Life Cycle or SDLC to perform their activities. SDLC is a tactic used to guide the development of any software product. It is the foundation of the activities performed when creating any application. Good examples of SDLCs include Agile, Waterfall, Rapid Application Development, Spiral Mode and Joint Application Development among others.

Software development companies must follow one of the best cycles described above to start and complete projects. The Planning phase always comes first and it is about forming project goals, scope of work and deadlines. The next phase is requirement gathering where data collection and studies about the users occur. The other stages involve design, coding, testing and maintenance. The testing role is a very crucial stage because it allows the test engineers to put their products on various trial situations for analysis purposes.

This enables the testers to identity bugs in the product being tested. Then they forward a report to the developing team. Quality assurance techniques are applied to ensure that the quality of programs is good before they are released to the public. The software development companies take part in various areas of development such as web development. As many people would concur, the World Wide Web has taken the world by storm. The internet seems as if it is everything that businesses and individuals want. To make the internet more exciting and useful to all users, the software developers have come up with various web development applications that make creation, maintenance and management of websites effortless.

Good examples of these applications include Silverlight, JavaScript, ASP.NET MVC, HTML5/CSS3 and PHP among others. Mobile development is another area that software developers participate in mostly by creating cost-effective apps for all types of popular phones. Their main areas include hybrid mobile applications, Window Phones apps, and Mobile Web apps such as CSS3, HTML5 and JavaScript. Desktop applications are another area where software development companies focus on. Desktop applications offer convenience, security and boosts performance.

They are based on technologies such as Silverlight, Microsoft.NET Framework, WPF and so on. Developers aim at the MS SQL server, Windows Operation Systems and MS Windows Server aspects when developing a platform for the desktop software. As mentioned earlier there are many areas of software development other than the three mentioned above. One may wonder how the engineers carry out their jobs. The traditional approach used by a variety of software development companies is forming a team of in-house engineers.

Nowadays this method is gradually losing taste as more and more companies embrace outsourcing. The industry is doing great, too, explaining why many developers are receiving more work than they can complete. Outsourcing is the means through which extra projects are assigned to other top programming companies. Nearshoring and offshoring are the two main strategies used by software development companies. The former involves assigning work to a company that is within the same geographical region while the former entails offering projects to a company that is very far away.

While Googling for Software Development Companies able to provide such things, I found this site http://www.dotnear.com/how-it-works/
